Hi,

I keep pretty meticulous service records for my car (2000 9-5 Aero), going back to when I purchased it CPO in 2003. This weekend, I created a spreadsheet listing all maintenance events w/ mileage. My intent was to give myself an idea of my upcoming costs to reach 200K. What I found was really surprising:

To date, I have spent slightly over $15K maintaining this vehicle, and believe me - nothing gets done to this car unless it needs it. This $15K includes about $2K spent on tires over the last eight years, but the rest of just stuff breaking and being fixed, in addition to the major services.

This works out to nearly $1900/year, which seems really high. Given some best-fit curves through mileage and expense graphs, I'm looking at $4300 for me to reach $200K in January 2014, which works out to $150/mo. What has me most worried is these estimates are based upon 'normal' repairs - nothing really bad has gone wrong with this car. The car has seen no internal engine work, it has the original clutch, original turbo, original alternator (I have all service records back to 2000, before I bought it).

What is the probability the following parts will last me until 200K miles, and what should I expect to pay to replace them?

a) clutch
b) turbo
c) alternator

Thanks in advance for the advice. I like to get as much life out of a car as possible, but I'm thinking the math may not make sense to get another 2 1/2 years out of the car. I'll try to import the spreadsheet into google docs and share it with a link, although my attempts to post links on this site usually fail.
