I just did one on an 01 v6 wagon. I use the xsboost guy for the rebuilt turbo. This is all he does for almost every turbo known to man. I put in one on a 99-i4 at 120k and it has 180k now with no problem. Good support, etc, So I would recommend this approach. (the Ohio guy).

The only hint is that you may have to trim off the lower left exhaust manifold stud while looking at the car from the front. I could not get the manifold off until I removed the bolt (stud stayed in engine) and then pulled it off as far as it would go and then saws all on the stud at the back side of the manifold. Fooled with this for 2+ hours, then in 2 mins cut the stud and off it came. Can replace with another stud, but I did not have to. Got nut to start before reassembly and then reassembly went very fast. I would say that it is a little bit easier than an i4 turbo replacement but about the same.

Also, there is a slight different in the 01 v6 and the 99 v6 turbo / manifold assembly.

1) Drain oil, 2) Drain Antifreeze, 3) Loosen all exhaust manifold bolts (hit with PBBlaster) 4) Loosten all exhaust pipe bolts (PB Blaster), 4) Loosten all Banjo Bolts, 5) Remove Banjo bolts keeping all washers and put each in a baggie and label. 6) Remove all other bolts. 7) Remove fan assembly. 8) Cut lower left stud if still in, Remove and then replace. Something like that.

I use a ratching closed end wrench for the banjo bolts. Be careful not to strip top. I have had to use heat on i4 Banjo Bolts, but did not have to on the one V6 I have done.
