May be bypass valve, but check rear of upper hose Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 28 Aug 2011 10:21:17 In Reply to: Coolant leak, John Anthony, Sun, 28 Aug 2011 09:17:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The Coolant by-Pass Valve is nearly dead center of the car on the firewall behind the engine. You identified the leak as being closer to the brake booster which may be a bad hose clamp connecting the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing. And you said your hose was very recently installed.
The MacKay hose kit, P/N 5463252, is currently out of stock at eEuroparts. However two Saab Dealers with on-line parts ordering systems both show it as available from them. Other Dealers may carry it too.

I wouldn't say installing this hose kit is easier, (seven difficult to access hose clamps rather than three) but you don't have to worry about the valve ever again. And if your heater hoses are old, this kit replaces them for a small fraction of the CBV hose set cost.
