Most likely worn out fan motor brushes Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 2 Oct 2011 15:11:20 In Reply to: 2001 9-5 FAN MOTOR NOT WORKING, charles, Sun, 2 Oct 2011 14:09:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Some owners have had great success by replacing the brushes only. They are not available as a service part but some searching here will yield the P/N for some brushes from McMaster-Carr that can be ground down to fit. Maybe $25 and a few hours of your time.
Or you can take the fan motor to an automotive electric service shop and have them fit new brushes in the motor. Maybe $50-$75 and slightly less of your time.
I opted for method #3, replacing the fan motor with a new unit. My motor failed before the reports of methods #1 and #2 were posted. Plan on $350 for this method and over an hour of your time.
