Thanks for replying, I was so hoping you would say it can be done in the car.
Condition of the car overall is very good, it's bone stock and it's my daily driver. The timing cover is good some I'm not going to bother taking that off, the chain is still within spec so I'm not going to roll in a new one-yet.
I may do just the one cylinder, my compression numbers in the cylinders were between 180 and 190 and the car has good power so I think I will leave the others alone and just put in one new (used) piston with a hone and new rings. The bearings are all new I did those 150 miles ago. So headgasket and one set of rings is all I will buy, hopefully the local saab shop has a spare piston laying around I can pick up for cheap.
I'm reluctant to turn the motor over I don't want the chain to skip and throw off my timing, later this week when i have a day off I will pull the downpipe, pan, and pull #4 out. Hopefully the cylinder walls aren't too trashed.
Thanks for the help, you called it right away it was #4!
