ATF + Jammed bleeder hose = Fountain Posted by FrancoisM [Email] (#1149) [Profile/Gallery] (more from FrancoisM) on Wed, 9 Nov 2011 18:49:59 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
(2008 aero wagon auto tranny)
Hi,
I just want to share my last experience with my indy mechanic (Saab specialist).
After 50Kkm, he suggested to have a look at the color of ATF. The tranny being dipstick-less, he removed the tranny filler plug. As the plug threads went off, a fountain of ATF came out of the tranny. He tried without success to screw the plug back... About 1 litre of fluid was spoiled on the floor. What happened??? He noticed that the bleeder hose was too tightly tie-wrapped : clogged.
So, no matter its color, the ATF has been changed.
Next issue : my indie does not have the tool to measure the ATF fluid (DT-47653). He then drained and filled with the usual amount of fluid (4.5 litres). My next step is now to visit the dealer to make sure the level of fluid is within range. No fun.
Conclusion 1 : Please, have a look at your bleeder hose and make sure it is adequately attached with this tie-wrap so it can breathe.
Conclusion 2 : What a shame that the dipstick has been removed!
Conclusion 3 : There is no magnet on the drain plug anymore... Should we change the fluid more often!
Question : How worried should I be about not being sure of the ATF level?
Good evening all of you,
Francois
