It's a pity, but don't give-up. Maybe not really something serious. If You're a do-it-Yourself owner (like many guys in this BB) You could just remove the camshaft cover to inspect timing chain to exclude/include this component. Even balance chain could break, but this failure would be a little more complicated to identify without oil pan removal or a boroscope. I own a 2001 Aero very poorly maintained by PO, but still going well. It's a robust car.
PS a cam cover inspection could even give some info about PO maintenance done.
