Looking for some help with an engine shut off problem. Car engine light on and sometimes off for ~1.5 years. Every check showed P0340-Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected. Catalyst Damaging. Car periodically gives off a smell(like maybe burning antifreeze, exhaust or ???) inside the cab, mostly when not using any Air Conditioning(Econo mode).

12/1/11 car shuts down on highway. engine light on. tow to shop. Codes show P0340-Camshaft Position Sensor Malfunction. P1300 - Random Misfire Detected - Catalyst Damaging. P1312 - Combustion Detection Cylinder 1/2 Open Circuit / Short to B+. P1334 - Combustion Detection Cylinder 3/4 Open Circuit / Short to B+. Car restarts and runs fine at shop. After drive car engine light comes back on. Code returns P1334. Replace spark plugs, Ignition cassette(ID Coil), change oil. Clear and reset codes. Car drives fine and no engine light.

12/8/11 car engine light comes on. Car runs fine for 2 days with engine light on. Next day car shuts down on highway and will not restart. Tow to shop. Change fuel pump and ful filter. No engine codes provided by shop. Car runs fine and no engine lights on.

12/19/11 car engine light comes on for 2 days. Car runs fine for 2 days with engine light on. Next day car shuts down on highway and will not restart. Tow to shop. Codes P0340 and P1304 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected, Catalyst Damaging. New Ignition cassette(ID Coil) will not produce a spark. Put back on old Ignition cassette(ID Coil) and car runs fine with no engine lights on. Running car with minimal electrical load(radio off, fog lights off, minimal seat heat usage, etc) and car runs fine with no engine lights on.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!
