Finally got around to installing some new parts in the front end (02 Aero 115K). I had originally installed Monroes on all fours about 30K ago and was never happy with them. So I installed Koni FSD's on the rear with new springs several months ago with shims and spring spacers which helped a lot with rear camber. Finally got around to doing the fronts and installed new ball joints, control arm bushings and tie rod ends while I was at it. Considering the mileage on the car and the rough terrain I drive I was quite surprised as to how good the original parts were. Only one ball joint seemed a bit loose. The rest did not need replacement imo.
Several notes...The Monroes are simply junk on the Aero imo. I had barely 30k on them and the drivers side had a lot more play than the passengers - you could easily push the piston in.
The strut bearing (Raybestos) were shot at only 30k - ball bearings went everywhere when I took the strut apart.
New ball joints, tie rods and control arm bushings did not improve the front end a lot, BUT it certainly feels tighter.
Koni FSD's are a great all around strut/shock - performance and comfort. In hindsight though I might have gone with a Bilstein HD's for a bit stiffer rebounding.
With basically a new front end and rear the Aero suspension is simply ok - bit too choppy for my taste. Makes me wish I could have driven this car new to compare it.
Of all the replacement parts the passenger side was the biggest pain. To remove the control arm you have to remove what looks like an ABS sensor from the arm, back off a hidden bolt that holds the sensor in place so you can get to the front control arm bushing nut. On and on. And the ball joints - damn those things. They gave me the hardest problem.
