Saving $40 on a replacement battery Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Wed, 11 Jan 2012 14:55:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
For the past few months I have been slightly concerned by starter motor speed every time I start my 9-5. "Is it a little slow, or am I just imagining it?" After the battery failed in my wife's 9-3SC last Friday my vigilance increased a notch or two.
Well tonight it was a no brainer. When I started the car after work the speed of the starter motor was reminiscent of what I would expect if the outdoor temperature was minus 10 degrees F. The temperature tonight was a downright balmy (for a Michigan January) 45 degrees!
I went to Sam's club to buy a replacement, a store I didn't even think of last Friday. The identical battery was $40 less at Sam's compared to what I paid at Auto Zone! A different brand name but the identical locking recessed carry handles are a dead give-away of the same manufacturer.
This $40 savings more than paid for our $35 annual membership fee. $85 for a 48 series battery versus $125 (or more) charged at other stores.
In addition; I found the lost cap from my coolant recovery bottle which I had failed to install last Fall (wedged between the battery and the upper radiator hose), and my head lights are much brighter!
