It's been a few years since I did mine. But as I recall, you have to remove the mirror glass. Pivot the mirror glass so it's looking either all the way left or right. This will leave enough room between the back of the mirror glass and the black plastic frame so that you can access the spring clip that holds the glass to the motor assembly. I think once the glass is out you get access to the very fragile plastic clips that hold that painted cover on.
Hopefully this is somewhat clear. But unfortunately, it's not as easy as popping it off from the outside. You will very likely break the clips.
