The problem with all the cupholders is the screws heads are facing away from you as you sit. If you have a LOT of patience, don't mind working blind, don't get frustrated easily, and have a little luck, you can do it without taking the whole dash out. That said, I will always take the dash out, as the cupholder part goes very quickly that way, and at least on 2005 & earlier dashes it's not a big problem at all to take apart. It literally takes more time to describe it and type it than to do it.
