Went out to car after letting it sit for about 48 hours, and it would not turn over - All the lights were on, headlights did there auto level etc... but did not turnover, did not even sound like it was trying (reminiscent of the old days when a starter solenoid would go out.)
Try two or three more times with the exact same results - and then next turn of the key, fires right up no issue.
Take it down to the local AutoZone to have them check the system, and it started right up and showed that there was bad diodes in the voltage regulator (passing 10 - 11 volts in the ripple ?? test) - recommendation to replace the alternator ($200 plus $100 dollar core) - decided that I would wait and see what all was involved and the experts here if that is the correct diagnosis.
Well leaving AutoZone it took 4 attempts to get the car started, by now I am skitish to take the car anywhere but do anyways (Thanks AAA for having my back). Stop at 4 other locations and car starts right up every time....
So what might be the problem? Is there a relay going out? Do I need a new alternator (what a job to change that thing according to WIS), what does the alternator have to do with the car starting (besides keeping the battery full).
As always thanks for you insight to these unique issues.
