GM parts or cross-reference list?

Has anyone ever seen or assembled a list of parts that can be bought from GM or other dealers that are exactly the same or universally accepted for our cars? For instance, the heater bypass valve via Cadillac, the coolant via Mercedes? In Europe there are apparently lots of Vauxall parts that are the same, and if someone hasn't already started a list like this, I would be interested in starting one or helping. Thanks in advance- JerryC
