Only go to the dealer for warranty work ! Find a good, reputable Saab garage and you will save money. I had a bad experience with the Saab dealer some years ago when my 2001 9-5 SE V6 went in for service at 60K miles; the dealer/saab sent me a letter 'offering' to give me the timing belt for free($200 dollar part) when doing the 60K service. A couple of hours later I get the call for more work needed.... do you have a fax machine as the list is too long to go through over the phone... $3200 !!!
I pared it down to $2200, but they wanted $320 to do the water pump with labor; I said the timing belt tear-down already gets you to the water pump and should only need a fraction of the labor to complete the water pump...
they wouldn't budge !!! Pulley - $320... parking brake cable $320
Lesson learned: only go to the dealer if the local Saab garage can't handle an esoteric problem. And the timing belt only cost $60 as I found out at 120K from my local Saab garage.
