I actually just did this five minutes ago. I don't have the carbon fiber trim, but the rubber trim so I had more flexibility. I picked up a set of plastic trim removal tools at Harbor Freight for six bucks. They weren't that necessary with the rubber but I'd imagine them to be essential for carbon fiber.
What surprised me was how little slack there was in the wiring to the Winter mode button. I just did a similar job on my 9-3 last week, and I had plenty of slack to lift the plastic cover out of the way, but on the 9-5 I kept having to work around it. I was tempted to unplug it but it looked like it was going to drop rather deep into the housing.
Some tips:
1. After trimming your old jalousie to get it off the shift lever, take the green plastic strip over the letters out with the jalousie. You have to turn this 90 degrees to get it out and there's a risk of ripping it or damaging the strip if you try to pull too hard.
2. If you're not going to take apart the shifter, snip the jalousie through the trunnion on the passenger side (the driver's side wouldn't work because it would break the connector to the plastic strip). Try to get a brand new razor blade and carefully slice it right down the middle. The shifter itself will hold the trunnion together, thereby keeping the snip you made intact without the use of electrical tape (which I can't imagine lasting more than a week).
When you reassemble everything, make sure to fit the plastic strip to the jalousie first, and that the jalousie strips are fully under the guides. It's helpful to move the shifter as you work the front and back.
With the snip the trunnion trick, you're done in 5 minutes, the cut is not visible, and the cut is held together by the actual lever.
