The inner "web" is an alloy, the outer ring is Aluminum. From the factory the aluminum ring was clear coated, center was powder coated. Over time the clear coat on the ring lifted, let some moisture underneath and oxidized the AL. It happens on all of these wheels.
It is rare to see any problems with the center section. if not, no need to refinish that portion.
You have some options.
- Powder coat the ring only, assuming the inner is OK
- Remove the clear from the ring and polish, leave it bare.
- Powder coat both inner and outer in same color
- Powder coat both, different color.
The stock look is a metalic silver/grey inner and bright polished AL ring.
when I refinished mine I powder coated the centers with a metalic silver, and powder coated the outer in a bright silver. The difference is not quite as dramatic as stock, but close.
Powder coat is very durable, and will last the life of the wheel.
