Almost every time after the car has been towed in with a bad fuel pump, the car starts up after the shaky ride.
But the same goes for a bad CKP sensor after engine is cooled down so the shop needs to do some initial testing and know what they are testing for.
If you are absolutely sure you didn't hear the prime buzz from the pump when turning on the ignition and know what to listen for, that's one point toward being a fuel pump.
I would use my labscope and check the amperage ripple from fuel pump in this case when the engine is running, that would give me a heads up if the pump is worn or not. But also test the resistance of CKP sensor after engine has been heated up as much as possible.
