Use 3-5 ft pipe on a breaker bar do undo the axle nut.
I removed two bolts at the shock absorber and was able to remove the axle this way - although it was a tight fit. No need to remove the brakes this way or worry about the alignment. Be careful not to put much force on the the brake line.
On the passenger side the drive axle connects to an intermediate shaft - no need to worry about the transmission seals (or transmission oil leaking out).
WIS suggest to tap the axle out - I couldn't. Instead, I used a claw hammer against the subframe to pry it out - was very easy this way and no need to crawl under the car.
