first of all, you guys rule. i sure wish I had you with me when I undertook this fool's errand...

I am definitely going back to the place with all of your points. I don't have any hope they'll revise their horrible bill but I feel like I have to do it. They have a reputation of being an honest shop so hopefully they'll take my feedback seriously (ha ha!)

MI-Roger - thanks for the rec - I will definitely look into it. I am in Alexandria so that is pretty convenient although I don't live near a metro (and am a SAHM).

Any other recs in Alexandria VA area are most appreciated. I had a great experience w/ Viking in MD but they are so far away (like 30 miles each way!) that I didn't want to take my car so far for what I thought was routine service.

I suppose I have to chalk this up as lesson learned but what a painful one...we're not DIYers so I do need a good mechanic I can trust. I thought I could trust this place but obviously not....
