Heater Bypass Valve elimination DIY which hose is which

Hi folks -- I'm having a hard time finding the Mackay heater bypass valve elimination kit in stock anywhere, and am looking at making one up myself in order to eliminate a slow leak as soon as possible.
MI-Roger posted a very insightful reply to a previous discussion of the matter (suggesting that it could indeed be done with a little creativity), but I have found one unclear part in his reply:
"The MacKay hose kit is two hoses contained in an oblong sheath so the installer won't cross them when connecting to the heater coil stubs. The left side stub (US driver's side) connects to the hose which exits the engine beneath the temperature sensor. The right side stub connects to the hose which exits the engine beneath the thermostat. The engine end connections on the MacKay kit are unusual for both but you can easily splice into your old hoses."
He references the heater core stubs as "left and right," but if I am looking at them correctly, they seem to be more "top and bottom." Am I seeing things wrong? Does anyone know offhand which stub (top vs bottom) feeds which hose?
Thanks in advance, friends!
