Not only do you get tape errors but if you're standing waiting with the engine off, the mechanical noises the cassette player makes are annoying. As ami stated there is a dynamic range trade-off when using a cassette adapter too. The "good" FM modulator units that interrupt the antenna input - e.g. Skosche aren't much cheaper at $150. The cheap FM transmitters for iPod do not work if you live any anywhere urban. The Saab FM antenna and receiver is just too good.
There's a kit for BMWs that does EXACTLY the same thing as Saabaux (interrupts the CD changer input) for about $10 less. Also remember that the Saabaux kit includes shipping - from Sweden.
The mod to the tape player I think still requires you to put a tape into the unit to make it go. Besides - If you're not careful it's possible to mess up your $2,000 Saab head unit. No thanks. We still play CDs and even the occasional cassette - I'm dating myself.
My wife insists on iPod input for her 9-5 so it's either a Skosche or Saabaux for me. Thanks amicusterrae.
