First, it's a little unclear sometimes whether a fuel pump has failed or simply survived-to-date for a few of the responses. Where unclear, I have simply added it to the "survived" column, since it is true in either case. Also, I have not included data for 9000s, even though the fuel pump is very similar, because my check at the fuel pump web site did not show the identical part number.
I have 15 failed fuel pump data, and 21 survived 'till now.
Failed pumps: average is 163K, with a standard deviation of 46K. The standard deviation is pushed up by the three responses under 120K.
Surviving fuel pumps: average is 129K, standard deviation is 26K.
Taking the statistics at face value, some 85% of us will get beyond 117K with the first fuel pump. Note that there is a lot you can do with small samples, such as throwing out the largest and smallest data point, and I welcome any statisticians to ask for my simple minded spreadsheet analysis or to reduce the data themselves directly from the source (this thread).
Me? After seeing the data, I will probably not dig into the fuel pump for the next year or two.
