Front wheel bearings '02 aero sw Posted by cork [Email] (#716) [Profile/Gallery] (more from cork) on Tue, 17 Apr 2012 10:36:02 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Actually, mine were replaced at 78k and now I am told that my left front needs replacement at 102k. However, what I hear is a repetitive "blip-blip-blip" which varies with the speed of the car when the wheels are being driven by momentum. When I apply power, the noise disappears and it seems to fade completely at about 55 mph (though with my snows still on it's not a quiet ride). Also, even at slow speeds when at its loudest this noise does not change if I corner in either direction so side load seems to be unrelated which causes me to wonder if it's a bearing. The car handles fine and there is no fedback through the wheel. Nonetheless, my wife found the noise so disturbing that I had the car towed to an unfamiliar Saab place which made the diagnosis and quoted me a price of $675 to replace it, since that's roughly 100% over the parts and labor elsewhere, I am wondering how far I could drive this and what the risks are. Any ideas on what this might be and how I might escape the clutches of the current shop are desperately sought. Many thanks and best to all
