Hi Tom, please search this 9-5 board for car alarm as it has answers to both battery questions.
The car battery should be replaced every 4 years regardless of miles. The alarm battery is much smaller and it's located near drivers wheelwell (inside). That battery is a lot more complicated to replace however doable if you're a serious DIYfer.
