Hey folks -
First off thanks to all of you on here for all of the information that is passed around. I truly value you all and know where to come anytime I have a problem!
I replaced my fuel pump tonight and wanted to pass along a tip. Before replacement, my fuel gauge would go crazy after fill-ups, usually until I had about 100 miles on the odo. It would drop to 'R' with the gas tank on, then go 3/4 way up, etc. Many of you have described this behavior and mentioned pulling the baffles out of the tank.
I noticed while working on the pump itself that the wiper for the fuel level rheostat looked a little tarnished so I cleaned it off with a pencil eraser - shined right up. So, upon reassembly I went off for a fill up and test drive.
On the back (about 4 miles), my gauge did not budge from 'F'...could be coincidence, but I would recommend everyone do a quick clean of the wiper arc on the rheostat while you are in there.
If it fails on the 50 miles to work in the am, I will, regrettably, post a follow-up!
Thanks again and take care all -
-Scott
