Here is why I am considering this repair. The bracket that secures the intermediate pipe to the rear pipe of the cat is severely rusted and proabably doesn't have a lot of life left after reassembly. The intermediate flex pipe behind the cat is bad and requires removal. Since I am already in the area working and the car has 200k I wonder how much life is left with it at this point and shouldn't I just replace it now. I do have a CEL, but I am not sure it is related. I haven't pulled the code as I am still in the assembly process (I have to drive it somewhwere) and I don't own a scanner myself since many places pull the codes for free. With the cat out I will likely replace the front and rear O2 sensors. I don't think any of this is the cause of the CEL.
