To test the fuel pump check valve theory, turn key to on 2-3 times for 5 sec each without cranking the engine. If the engine starts up quicker, it could be the check valve.
It could also be the starter or battery cable going bad. Starter can create strange problems on a V6 stealing too much juice so it is not enough left for the fuel injection system.
Bad battery cable can do the same not delivering enough juice to both starter and fuel injection system.
