Funny, I think BMWs are weak. I drove a 330 and it barely matched my old 9-3 SE, let alone my Aero. On the highway in particular, the difference in acceleration between a Saab and BMW is stunning. Not only that, but the Aero beats a 325 on the skid pad (Road & Track).
The only time a 325 will beat an Aero is from a standing stop. This is 100% a result of real wheel vs. front wheel drive. Since I don't do much stoplight drag racing, 0-60 isn't really importnat. At any moving speed, from 5 MPH up, an Aero will smoke a 323, 325, 328, 330, 525, and 530.
I got my Aero for about $35k, which is LESS than a similarly optioned 325. (I know this because I just bought a 325 for my mother. She went with the BMW because she thought it looked nicer, even though she though the 9-5 SE outperformed it and was "more car for the money"!).
