Intercooler hose rip Posted by Gene N [Email] (#1094) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gene N) on Wed, 27 Jun 2012 06:44:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have been trying to track the source of an air leak on my 1999 for months, and I finally found a small tear in the rubber intercooler hose that goes to the intake tube on the left-hand side (driver's side in US). The area by the intake tube connection, away from the intercooler was rotted and split.
I did a search and found out this was not unique amoung 9-5 owners. This has happened often enough on my other Saabs that I should remember to check for it in the future. On my 1990 9000T, the rubber elbow beteen the turbo and intercooler split after 7 years, and on the 1991 9000T the rubber intake hose at the throtle body split at 15 years. The split on the 1991 was really hard to find because it was on the bottom side of the hose and was only visible if you squeezed the hose.
I probably got the last hose in the US for my 9-5 from TheSaabSite. All the outher sources came up dry. I wasn't looking forward to jury-rigging somthing with RTV, but that seems to be the way it will be in the future. I guess I could have bought a used hose, but buying used rubber parts seems counterproductive.
Hope the parts situation gets better soon, because right now it is pretty depressing.
