AC stepping/distribution motor

Hi All,
Thanks to the invaluable help provided by this board I've been able to identify the stepping/distribution motor (part #5172580) as the source of my AC problems.
I've taken it out and taken the two sides of the motor apart. And - like some others have discovered, the motor side itself works fine when I plug it back into the connector. The problem *seems* to be that the little shaft on the other side somehow worked itself out to extend too far. I was able to get it back into what looks like the right position. Here's where the problem is...
I can spin and run the motor side itself on its own. And, I can spin the other sprocket side itself when it's apart on its own. However, when I put them back together I can't spin them and the motor doesn't work when reconnected.
I can't see inside once they're put back together but it looks like everything is lining up correctly.
Not sure what's going on here. Should I be able to spin this when it's disconnected from the motor?
