Back before I spent my winters in Florida, I used 225-50-16 winter tires - Nokian WR, and I never had the feeling of floating on snow. I don't think the half inch of section width will make as much difference as the quality of the winter tire.
If you still want narrower, maybe 195-60-16 or 195-65-16 (if there are such a things) to keep the load rating and OD where they belong.
