Thank you for your posting on changing the brake booster. I have a black 1999 Saab,9.5 4cyl, wagon. I have 150,000 miles and I drive it to work m-f 23miles each way. I really like the car. When my brake pedal became hard and would barely stop, I was diagnosed with a bad booster(854.00). A wholesaler had a power booster for 154.00. Armed with your directions and the new booster, I went for the replacment. I took the battery out, pulled the fuse box to the empty battery space. I loosened the master cylinder, pulled it forward, but it stayed stuck to the booster. I opted to loosen the booster from the bracket. I had just lost 60lbs and my hands were thinner. When I moved the electrical connection unit next to the power booster I was able to reach the nuts with a open ended 13mm wrench. It was a tight fit, with buised knuckles and scraped hands I carefully removed the nuts to the booster from the bracket. Then I could finally unstick the master cylinder and see the connector to the brake pedal. Following your advice I carefully removed the locking spring pin, but it still go away from me. I went online to try and find one but I could not. I found a diagram and had to show the parts man at a defunct Saab dealer what to look for and even though he said no he finally said yes, he had the part(4.50). I bought two. The parts man had a mechanic put the locking spring pin on the shaft for me, because I could not see how to do it. fortunately, I took the shaft with me to the dealer. So I was only down a day and not seven. It was a lot easier putting everything back than taking out. So I did not remove the wipers or get under the car to remove the bracket. Another mistake,I moved the adjustment screw on the new power booster. , my brake lights were on when I connected my battery back. But a metal shim fixed that, thank you for your directions.
