As Acubra points out. It is also a crash part built into the system and as I guess it, what they want is probably the subframe to shear off and slide under the car (my wild guess).
Cannot quite see how that would happen with the rear bracket/brace being in the way and the over sized washers on each bolt but it is probably a computer nerd much smarter than me that figured it out.
I think I read something about it in WIS for the 02 and up 9-5 but that doesn't explain then why they went back to the 01 and older bushing design for the 2006 and up model.
And again, since Volvo is usually accepted to be a pretty safe car and they don't have any problems with their subframes and the way they designed it.
