I've read here that other GM vehicles with the same engine (albiet, not turbocharged) have 75k or so replacement interval with the belt (you do have an Arc, right?), so with 43k, I wouldn't worry about that.
The typical CPS failure is a slow death, problems restarting when warm, so that's not a catastrophic, strand-in-middle-of-nowhere (for too long). Replaced CPS on son's '05 Aero this summer, and the local NAPA dealer did have one in stock, but I went eEuro route.
Have you been replacing coolant regularly? If not, then the system has been operating at less than 7 psi all along. When it wants to exceed that pressure/temperature, it will, and blow coolant. I don't know what the "normal" cap rating is, but if it's 10 psi, that doesn't mean that the system is always at 10 psi.
Enjoy the trip, I can't think a a better car head off for 3,500 miles (well, maybe an Aero). Actually, your Arc will provide more comfortable ride than a 2002 Aero.
