My passenger seat heater has been inop for a while now, but the only time I seem to notice is when it's too cold to do anything about it! Now I'm trying to be proactive before the weather cools off but am having a VERY hard time isolating the problem.
I understand that there are a couple complications to the simple--voltage across a resistor=heat--system: the switch, the thermostat, and the pressure sensor. I have ruled out the switch.
I thought that I had a break in the resistance element, but now that I've torn the seat apart I have very low (~2ohm) resistance values. I also had power at the seat connector before I removed the seat, now nothing.
I'm troubleshooting power now, but I don't understand how the pressure sensor and thermostat integrate with the controls.
1. What is the standard resistance value of the pressure sensor when the seat is empty and when it's occupied?
2. Where does the power cut off when the switch senses an empty seat? The computer (before the switch)?
3. Where is the thermostat and how can I check if it's functional?
Right now the seat is in pieces and I have power at the switch, but no longer have power at the seat connector. The connections are all plugged in and I've tried applying pressure to the sensor. Doesn't make any sense!
Might just put it all back together and call it a bust...
Thanks for any help you might be able to give!
