A note to to all those experiencing this problem. I am on my second 9-5 wagon and they have both leaked in the rear. I have found that the 3rd brake light itself develops cracks on the back of the housing (where the bolts hold it to the hatch fixing points), this can cause the lens to separate from the main housing which seals to the car body. Rain goes in through this gap, travels inside the fitting and then drips through these cracks in the back of the housing. The water is then in the interior, and drips from the plastic on the top back of said hatch. A replacement light is ~$150, I have attempted to fix it with silicon glue gel. Time will tell if it works. I would say that for the amount of money this fitting costs it is poorly designed (Bad job! Probably GM) will crack due to the mechanical stresses on the plastic.
