Halogen headlamp replacement on 2006+ models Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 14 Oct 2012 07:59:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This may have been covered ad nauseum 5 years ago but I believe their are many "new" owners of these cars, similar to myself, who bought them off the pre-owned lots.
Right hand side:
Remove the corrugated hose between the MAF and the Inlet Snorkel to gain more space. Two hose clamps so no big deal.
Left hand side:
Remove the battery cover. Remove the battery - 13mm bolt on clamp. Remove the large fuse block clipped to the side of the battery tray. Remove a heat shield attached to the radiator cross member with two torx screws and slipped over the battery tray. Remove the battery tray - three 10mm bolts.
Each headlamp is located behind its own circular rubber pop-off dust cover.
The high beam lamp is a push fit into a recess molded in the headlamp assembly and has no retainer. The recess feels as if it is not located dead center behind the removable rubber cover but rather is half way between center and top. This lamp is installed "tang up" as were the H7 lamps in the 1998 thru 2005 models.
The low beam lamp has a spring retainer that must be pushed further toward the right side fender to unlatch it. This lamp is installed "tang down" just to make things interesting.
I recommend replacing all headlamps when replacing the battery for obvious reasons. Total time to replace my 4+ year old battery and four H7 lamps was maybe an hour.
