Restarting the trailer wiring discussion! Posted by Saabpilot [Email] (#134) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Saabpilot) on Wed, 17 Oct 2012 06:12:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hello, all. This is in regard to my 2007 9-5 Aero sedan. As we all know, GM deleted the trailer wiring receptacle that made trailer wiring on the older 9-5s oh, so easy by simply buying the wiring harness.
A while ago I installed a generic powered trailer wiring adapter using factory wiring diagrams. The result is my tail and brake lights work fine, my left turn signal works fine, my right turn signal does not work at all and there is DC current "leaking" into the left trailer tail light even when the ignition is off.
I believe I need to add diodes somewhere. I have seen diode kits offered at places such as ETrailer, designed for use when a vehicle is towing another vehicle. Has anyone successfully implemented a trailer wiring harness in an '07 - '09 9-5? Can I just solder the appropriate diodes into the trailer wiring?
I rented two UHaul trailers recently and can't believe they let me out of the lots without properly functioning turn signals. I'd really like to get this fixed.
