I am currently running Mobil 1 5w40 TDT (turbo diesel truck) in my 04 Aero. Took advantage of Advance Autos Mobil 1 sale last month. I used to run Amsoil 5w40 European formula and this new oil looks very good to run in a 9-5. Planning on giving it a run next year in the spring/summer with oil analysis.
My brother has a newer VW GDI (gas direct injection) and just purchased a case of this. From a VW forum.
Amsoil is introducing a "Full SAPS*" (read high TBN and ZDDP), version of their 5w-40 European oil on 15 October. Additive chemistry meets VW 502.00/505.00, BMW LL-01 and Mercedes 229.5, along with the generic ACEA A3/B4 and latest API/SN specs. Price is competitive with similar products, $87.50/12 qts or $38.50/5L at full retail, or about 20% less for preferred customers.
I suspect they're doing this because the latest direct injection, European, gas engine turbo's are really beating up the mid-SAPS and low-SAPS oils. They're pretty much shot in 5000-6000 miles.
* SAPS stands for sulphated ash, phosphorus and sulphur....
