V6 water pump anecdote: Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Fri, 26 Oct 2012 11:49:28 In Reply to: V6 water pump rules..., Larry West [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 26 Oct 2012 07:52:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My mechanic did the TB on his V6 wagon, but did not do the WP because it "looked fine" (first time apart).
A very brief time later, the WP failed catastrophically, coolant everywhere (they're not supposed to do this). He replaced the WP, but didn't touch the TB, as he'd just done it (second time apart).
Almost immediately upon starting up after the WP change, he noted that the motor was off song, not quite running right. He tears into it a THIRD time, checks the timing, and the belt had slipped a tooth on one (maybe more, I forget) of the cam sprockets, causing the "off-song" observation. A NEW TB later, and some clean-up on the sprockets to clean off any residual coolant, and it ran fine until he sold it.
