Thanks for the info on the orange relay- Never had this problem before, cant believe I wasn't aware of it with all the write ups.
Here's how I did it:
Removing the orange cover- I used a box knife blade to cut away half of the overlapping lock tabs. This made it much easier to pry out without deforming it, and left plenty to lock the cover back on.
Could not find my sons soldering gun, so I put a skinny nail in a vise grip and heated the tip on a blow torch. when it just got red hot, I touched the tip to each of the solder joints- Not enough to make melt, but enough to "dent" where the nail touched it. This was very precise, and kept me from spreading the solder across to the next connection.
I also took some sandpaper to each of the connectors on the bottom.
Time:
20 minutes looking for the soldering gun
2 minutes gathering the blowtorch / nail
3 minutes to open
5 minutes to solder and sand
1 minute to replace and test.
Also, looks like the price of the relays is way down- $25 to $45
