Brakes - Possible Solution Posted by Doug W [Email] (#2371) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Doug W) on Sat, 10 Nov 2012 20:04:30 In Reply to: Re: ABS Controller Failures, MI-Roger [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 9 Nov 2012 03:36:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I did the front rotors and pads this afternoon. Pagid OEM style pads and Zimmermann Coat Z rotors. The Pagid pads are nearly indistinguishable from Saab OEM at about half the price. Car stops great!
Ahh, but the dashboard warning lights are still on. The right rear has been making a roaring noise and getting worse lately. Jack the car up. The right rear wheel has about 10° of play (wobble) in it in all directions - not good. Wheel bearing and likely integral ABS sensor is shot - hence lights on dash still on - no signal from trashed hub assembly.
eEuro sells rear hub assembly 5058185 for $189 and Saabsite has the same part for $79. The eEuro is SKF, could the Saabsite one be a Chinese knock-off? Seems like a huge price difference to me.
Is there any way to re-tighten the bearing or can it only be replaced? Is the MTBF similar so they should be replaced in pairs?
Good thing I just did the rear brakes last summer. It should come apart pretty easily. I'll take the opportunity to repaint the hat on the rear rotor :)
