Xenon Fusion Bulbs

My apology for this not being a Saab 9-5 question, but over the years I have gotten such great answers here for my 9-5 that this seems the best place to ask the following (and aren't xenon bulbs on the late 9-5s?).
We will be replacing our 14 year old Mazda 626 sedan (goes to college in Vermont with son) this spring, with either a Mazda 3 or the upcoming 6. I was reading the owners' manual online for the 3, and I came across the following, in regards to its xenon-fusion headlights:
"Xenon fusion bulb/Adaptive front lighting system
Replacing the headlight bulbs (Low/High beam bulbs):
You cannot replace the low/high beam bulbs by yourself. The bulbs must be
replaced at an expert repairer, we recommend an Authorized Mazda Dealer."
Is this for real? In 37 years I have never had a car that I could not replace any dead bulb by myself (save for inside the dash). Does anyone know anything about this? Are special tools/assists required, or is this just a matter that the average person might get careless and harm themselves.
And I thought the orange relay was a pain...
Thanks.
