89°C should be the norm for the 9-5.
82°C was the norm some 20 years ago but as the white coat lab rats are chasing fuel economy, they keep cranking up the temperature (and pressure) in the cooling system making hoses and radiator pop here and there.
And since the fuel system has a built in data on how the temperature should rise in the engine at different outdoor temps, you can't get away with installing a colder thermostat with risk of triggering the Check Engine light.
