Recently experienced a loss of oil (approx 1/2 quart over 2k miles)on 2006 Sportcombi with 111k miles (no previous oil loss experience. Further investigation resulted in discovery of oil on the bottom half of the v band that connects the turbo inlet pipe to the compressor side of the turbo. The v band was loose (to the point it could be moved) and after tightening the v band the leak appears to have stopped.
Question is should oil be able to leak from union between the inlet pipe and turbo? If no what would cause the leak? Should a loose v band allow oil to leak or just create an air leak on the inlet side of the turbo?
