the resultant mix won't be any "worse" than the "worse" of the oils you're mixing. There is nothing special about one oil that prevents it from being mixed with another. Dino, semi, full-synth, straight wt, multi-wt, doesn't matter.
I don't know that you'll end up with something "better" than what's on the shelf.
My second SAAB (1999 9-5 SE(4)), the one I bought for 16-yr old daughter was grossly overfilled when I bought it. As you've noticed, the black dipstick is difficult to read. I checked the oil before I drove away from seller, he said they had just changed, it had plenty. It had PLENTY. What I didn't notice was that it was grossly overfilled.
About 15 minutes into my drive home (I was several states away), the oil light came on. Pulled over, checked the level, and it was all foamed up, but I was still able to determine (after looking more closely) that it was overfilled.
Drove to the next oil-change joint I saw, and despite their objections (they didn't follow my logic that frothing the oil was creating low oil pressure) they proceeded to drain several quarts of oil out.
So, way too much oil bad, wall too little also bad.
The dipstick has about a 1 quart range, I suspect that anywhere on there is OK, and that a little over (perhaps still on the plastic portion) is also OK. I think we all agree that being on the high side of the dipstick (normal range) is better than being on the low side, but it's all good.
