Rear spring spacers, 2-piece design?

I was thinking about rear spring spacers ('02 Aero SW). I saw someone selling a clamp-on 2-piece spacer online (IGN3TECH).
This basically clamps on like a shaft collar. Black-oxide steel 1.75" to 2" ID shaft collars are about $11 each from McMaster-Carr. They are only 11/16" thick, so 2 would be required per side, but this would mean you could install them without removing the shock.
Remove the wheel and use a spring compressor in-situ to fit the collar in place between the perch and the spring. The collar is under compressive load only.
Has anyone ever tried this?
