I would unplug and clean the connectors with contact cleaner. I bet most issues with the sensor are actually a connector issue in some capacity. ee101 is connections are the first things to fail, especially in environments subject to vibration, temperature cycling, or humidity (ie under the hood of a car)...
Does it drop to zero every time you start the car or just occasionally?
Did you use OEM or aftermarket for the tstat and sensor?
