Oil pressure should be checked after the car has been fully warmed up, and with the tach sitting at 2,000 RPM.
1. Normal readings are 35-38psi; a reading in the 30-35 psi range is not unusual during very warm weather.
2. The oil pressure switch is set to close at 6 psi. Hint: If the oil pressure light comes on while you are driving down the road you already have a serious problem. Driving down the road 36psi is great; <6psi (warning light would be on) is a disaster.
